Contract or Covenant...? Sense of Well Being, Did God Kill Super Collider? Avoiding Danger
"WHATSOEVER THINGS ARE OF GOOD REPORT... THINK ON THESE THINGS."
PHIL. 4:8
In This Month's Report:
We would love to hear from you; please send us your feedback today. Don’t forget the ever-popular 'GOD THOUGHTS' at the end of this report. Enjoy! JB EDITORIAL – Contract or Covenant...?
INTRODUCTION Early last month, we had one of our twice annual minister's retreats sponsored by our Christ Covenant Coalition network. Keynote speaker Larry Keefauver, former editor of Ministries Today magazine, touched on many relevant topics, however one interactive dialogue really helped me gain more insight into one of my favorite subjects; American culture!
A TEMPORAL TIME FRAME By and large, we discovered that America has a predominantly contract based culture. By this we mean that most transactions that take place do so on a task orientated basis, whether they be of a business, social or personal nature.
A contract is on a bi-level basis involving just two parties, and having conditions that if broken cause the contract to be null and void. Contracts are also based on a temporal time frame with a clear use by date.
Our culture has muddied the line between contract and covenant! Larry said, "In America there's no understanding of covenant... a covenant is tri-level, not just involving two people, but also including the ultimate third party; God!"
God's language is covenantal! His word, the Bible, is written in a covenant context. You will never fully grasp His message to us unless you understand the dynamics of covenant. If we interpret His word from a contractual basis, we will miss the whole point of His redemptive plan. In a contract, if either party does not keep their side of the bargain, the contact is broken. In a 'tri-level' covenant, one party can default, but God always keeps His word, which makes covenants eternal not temporary.
A ONE WAY STREET Perhaps that's why we have such relationally broken society here in America. Our consumer culture continually encourages us to think 'it's all about me!' Self-centeredness reigns in place of selflessness. The initial mutual benefits afforded by contracts can quickly disintegrate when one party decides to turn it into a 'one way street!' Here the relationship becomes one sided which will eventually cause the contract to break down. Mutually contributive relationships are much more lasting, particularly when they are covenantal.
STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOU From politician's promises to marriage, the first covenant instituted by God, broken promises have become a 'way of life' in our fractionated society, because too often we have left God out of the equation. Our way of life would enjoy a lot more of God's grace and favor if we put Him back in the middle of all our affairs.
HEALTH UPDATE... Recovering a Sense of Well Being
It is now three months since I had the last dose
of chemo and I continue to get stronger each day. My weight has
increased to a healthy level, even though I am about 20 pounds lighter
than a year ago, when we began to deal with my health difficulties. "Hi Pastor Jeff! I just want to tell you that I have been praying for you all this time and I'm very happy that you are doing so well. You are a very nice person and I'm sure that our God loves you and he takes care of you. Regards from Ecuador, your friend Doris"
I will send you an update with more details and prayer points in the next few weeks.
FEEDBACK... The Fear of God!
"Good morning Jeff! We are absolutely thrilled to read of your health and strength increasing daily. Also so happy to know that you are back and active in ministry. We continue to pray that the Lord will bring you through to total victory. You have been through so much, but it has been a catalyst in bringing many leaders to an awareness that we need to support our brothers and sisters in ministry. I know of so many who have been praying for you... Keep up the Fire Power! Every blessing for you and Melva. John & Desma Hewitt, Australia"
"...I will continue to believe in prayer for you. I praise God and thank Him everyday that you are healed no matter how you feel, Ok? Have a wonderful life, every step of the way. God will bless you and your family and ministry. You are his anointed vessel, just remember that. Job went through it and came out better than before. So are you. Blessing to you, Pilar Richard, San Diego, CA."
"Hi Jeff. I live in Australia. Airport West, Melbourne, Vic. I saw you many years ago when you preached at Frankston AOG., (around 1996. I was attending that church at the time). You looked at me when you were preaching and I got the fear of God!!. I have cleaned up my life since then. I received deliverance about 3 years later and began preaching on the streets. When my wife and I opened our Facebooks, we decided to look for preachers. We were very happy to find you. Now we can see you when/if you come this way again. Thank you Jeff and God bless. Stay focused on Jesus!!. John, Australia"
OCTOBER MINISTRY…
After not ministering for most of 2009, I am presently endeavoring to build up some momentum in my ministry schedule again. In October I was able to minister in several great churches.
Places of Ministry in October: Sun, 4th - New Beginnings Community Church, Darien, CT, Pastor Rob Cassara Sun, 11th - Victory Christian Fellowship, Audubon, PA, Pastor Ed Crenshaw Sun, 18th - Valley Christian Centre, Westfield, PA, Pastor Kurt Heisey
"Jeff, your ministry with us recently was incredibly inspiring. The way you have walked with God through your challenges of these last months has taken you to a new level of authority in proclaiming the truths of God’s Word. The Scriptural principles you have preached effectively for years now come across as a living testimony to God’s faithfulness. Anyone who is facing a huge challenge, whether a crisis of health or anything else, will receive tremendous encouragement from your message. God is certainly doing great things in your life and ministry. As you conveyed, you are still learning from God, and as a result you have something fresh and powerful to minister to God’s people. Jeff, you are a wonderful blessing to me personally, and I am privileged to be able to partner with you in ministry. In His service with you, Ed Crenshaw, Pastor, Victory Christian Fellowship, Audubon, PA"

Passing the Baton Half of the world's 6.5 billion inhabitants are under 20 years old.... A global youth culture is forming, and Christians must learn to adjust to it. Some are already claiming that the church must be completely re-invented. The newly-forming youth culture depends less on scientific and rational thought and tends more toward seeking to experience spiritual things personally. Those seeking spiritual experiences will be disappointed by a church offering only information about God.
